INALIENABLE RIGHTS | CELEBRATING INDEPENDENCE DAY
It has been 249 years since the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776—a bold proclamation that declared the American colonies no longer subject to the British crown, but united, free, and independent.
Our government and our very identity as Americans are rooted in the Declaration’s powerful words:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,
that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
These are not privileges, but inherent rights—and we must continue to protect them with conscience and courage.
Signed by 56 brave men in Philadelphia’s State House, this document ignited a nation, and continues to inspire freedom. From the fireworks we enjoy today to the sacrifices made by those in uniform, the legacy of that declaration lives on in the heart and soul of our country.
More Than Fireworks
Though July 4th became a federal holiday in 1941, its spirit has been celebrated since the very first anniversary in 1777 - with parades, cannons, concerts, and public readings of the Declaration. Now, it’s a day for barbecues, beach days, fireworks, reunions, and reflection - as we honor the freedoms that define us.
Allies around the world also mark this day. From the Philippines’ Republic Day to festive gatherings in Denmark, Ireland, and Norway, the reach of America’s fight for freedom is global. Even American troops abroad celebrate with games, music, and camaraderie - keeping the spirit of liberty alive no matter where they serve.

We continue to fight for life, freedom, and the right to pursue happiness—not just for ourselves, but for future generations. It is for these rights that we must treat each other with dignity, defend against tyranny and injustice, and hold fast to faith, unity and hope for a better tomorrow.
Let us never forget: the cost of freedom is vigilance, and the reward is a nation built on courage, ideals, and shared dreams.
