Meet Aurea Franklin: A Voice of Service, Leadership, and Mentorship
Aurea Franklin is a proud Filipina, a U.S. Army Veteran, and a Lifetime Member of the Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC). Originally from Luzon, Philippines, she speaks Tagalog and brings her deep cultural roots, leadership experience, and heart for service to everything she does.
A decorated member of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Aurea served in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded two Bronze Stars. After retiring from military service, she continued her commitment to public service through her work at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, D.C. She also holds three master’s degrees and is active in both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and The American Legion.
A passionate advocate for mentorship, Aurea has led FAPAC’s mentoring programs with vision and dedication. Under her leadership, she has significantly increased participation, launched development initiatives, and connected dozens of mentors and mentees across federal agencies. She currently serves as Chair of the FAPAC VA Chapter’s first mentoring program and continues to build community through innovative leadership training and outreach.
She’s also an author—her memoir Silent Freedom details her military journey, and her novel series Indivisible explores themes of resilience and identity. You can learn more about her writing and work at aureafranklin.com.
Aurea’s story is one of grit, gratitude, and giving back. Inspired by mentors who shaped her own path, she now lights the way for others, always guided by humility, hard work, and heart.
