Independence Day 2023
Celebrate our Independence. Honor those who sacrificed. Respect those who serve.
Celebrating 4th of JULY
Independence day, also popularly known as Fourth of July or July 4th , has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18 th century and the American Revolution.
Independence Day is the National Day of the United States and is a federal holiday, commemorating the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified during a meeting at the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia on July 04, 1776, establishing the United States of
America.
The Founding Father delegate, commonly referred to simply as the Founding Fathers of the Second Continental Congress, were a group of the late -18th century American revolutionary leaders who united the thirteen colonies and declared that these thirteen colonies were no longer subject and subordinate to the monarch of Britain, King George III, and were now united, free, and independent states. On June 07, 1776, historian Richard B. Morris identified seven figures as key Founders based on what he called the triple tests of leadership, longevity, and statesmanship: John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Hay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington.
The Thirteen Colonies were the New England Colonies, which included New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut; the Middle Colonies which included New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware; and the Southern Colonies which included Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. The Congress voted to approve Independence by passing the Lee Resolution, on July 02 and adopted the Declaration of Independence two days later, on July 4th . The Lee Resolution refers to Richard Henry Lee who introduced a resolution that the united colonies are and of right ought to be free and independent states. It has three parts: a declaration of independence, a call to form foreign alliances, and a
plan for confederation. Festivities including concerts, bonfires, parades and the firing of cannons and muskets usually accompanied the first public readings of the Declaration of the Independence, beginning immediately after its adoption. The first annual commemoration of independence was held in Philadelphia on July 04, 1777, while Congress was still occupied with the ongoing war.
Our allies also celebrate July 4th. For instance, the Philippines celebrates July 4th as its Republic Day to commemorate the day in 1946 when it ceased to be a U.S. territory and the United States officially recognized Philippine Independence. Rebuild, a small rural town in northern Denmark, was said to host one of the largest 4th of July celebrations outside the United States. The Irish seem to love the 4th of July as much as Americans enjoy St. Patrick’s Day. In Norway, the Lincoln Monument has been the focal point for the 4 th of July observance in Oslo, the capital of Norway. The monument was a gift from the people of North Dakota to the people of Norway.
Many countries celebrate 4th of July in a merry way. American troops in the battlefield kept the merriment alive with games and barbeques.
Today, when we celebrate the 4th of July, most people associate it with fireworks, family reunions, picnics, barbeques, parades, ceremonies and speeches, concerts at the Capitol Hill, the iconic symbols that represent freedom, such as the United States flag, Statue of Liberty, Liberty
Bell, American Warriors, and freedom-loving people. That’s right. I believe that people will defend this nation from anyone who tramples their freedom.
